Hey, folks! Welcome to the Bare Bear Blog. Yes, it is the beginning of the Bare Bear Blog. We’ve been talking about blogging for quite a while now, so here it is!

We’re hoping to give you a few different view points on things; as all of our minds work very differently. Odds are, anything I talk about will have absolutely nothing to do with function. It’s just not the way I think. I’m hoping to talk a lot about design, music, and just share things I find on the vast interweb and beyond.

Mitch, Josh, and I are new to the industry. We’re young. We’re young but obsessed with art and media, and just want to give back a little bit of what we pick up as we move out of our parents’ homes (hopefully soon) and enter the world with nothing but a couple years of experience in the work force, half the time being unpaid slaves.

I figured I wouldn’t waste a post just telling you about who we are, so here is something I recently discovered. I’ve been wanting a record player for quite a while now and have even bought a vinyl (because of the cover) that I couldn’t even play until recently. I’ve looked at old record players and everything I saw was extremely bulky with built in amps, tape decks, and tuners. Above, you can see an old Fisher turntable that I picked up recently. It was free and I was desperate for something to play my one and only vinyl.

I came across Pro-Ject Audio Systems. The turntable has been stripped bare of everything except for the essential components. They even come in various colors! The Pro-Ject Audio Debut III Turntable runs at about $379, which isn’t bad considering the exceptional design. I love the wood model of the Pro-Ject 1 Xpression III Classic that comes with a carbon-fibre tonearm (it’s a little more pricey). I’m hoping to purchase one soon. Pro-Ject also sells some very simple, well designed amps, i-pod docks, tuners, etc.
